BODYBUILDING – WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
What are the right exercises for my body type? What is forced repetition? Why do I need a training programme? What about nutrition? Welcome. This site gives you a concise one-stop snapshot into the world of bodybuilding – the facts, the fiction, and solid information and advice for both beginners and seasoned bodybuilders.
To achieve muscle growth, three vital things are needed: muscle stimulation, adequate nutrition, and recovery, i.e., rest. When muscle is put under heavy strain, microscopic tears or rips occur in the muscle (hence the term ‘getting ripped’), which the body then tries to repair. If enough muscle-building material, i.e. protein, is available to the muscles, the body can repair the damage. During this process, the muscle can grow bigger than it was before being ‘ripped’.
To increase your muscle mass, your energy intake must be above the level normally needed by your body. When working to gain muscle mass, your body fat will also easily increase. This is one of the biggest challenges for the bodybuilder – how to build muscle without gaining excess body fat. Whether your goal is body fitness or bodybuilding, when it comes to working out and nutrition, the same essential laws apply.
